Honiara, Solomon Islands – 19 October 2026 – The Federated States of Micronesia National Oceanic Resource Management Authority (FSM NORMA) participated in the 8th East New Britain Initiative (ENBi) Working Group Meeting held today at the Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) headquarters in Honiara, Solomon Islands.
The meeting brought together FFA member countries and regional partners to review progress under the ENBi, a regional initiative aimed at increasing economic benefits from Pacific tuna resources through fisheries development, value addition, investment, and greater regional cooperation.
Central to the ENBi is a collaborative approach that encourages FFA members to work collectively as though they were islands of a single country, with each contributing to the development of the regional tuna industry based on its unique strengths and comparative advantages.
Rather than competing for the same investments, industries, or a greater share of existing benefits, the initiative promotes complementary development through coordinated investment, infrastructure, tuna processing, and other value-adding activities. By integrating national capabilities into a more cohesive regional system, FFA members can collectively expand economic opportunities, generate greater value from their tuna resources, and ensure that benefits are more widely shared among Pacific Island countries and their communities.
Key discussions focused on the implementation of the ENBi work plan, progress toward establishing the Regional Fisheries Development Fund, and opportunities to strengthen regional coordination, industry participation, and investment in the fisheries sector.
During the meeting, FSM NORMA provided updates on national initiatives, including ongoing efforts to advance small-scale tuna fisheries development, strengthen market access, and support fisheries-related investment opportunities. FSM also emphasized the importance of continued technical assistance and regional collaboration to support national implementation.
FSM NORMA remains committed to working with FFA and regional partners to advance the objectives of the ENBi and ensure that Pacific Island countries, including the FSM, derive greater and more sustainable economic benefits from their tuna resources.
